Project coordinator
This project develops constructed wetlands as nature-based solutions to strengthen water security and climate resilience in the Iguaçu River Basin, Paraná, Brazil. A pilot initiative at the Piraquara State Forest will investigate the potential of wetland systems to retain sediments, nutrients, and pollutants, improve water quality, regulate streamflow, and support groundwater recharge. The project also serves as a living laboratory for research, education, and community engagement.

Effects of land-use and land-cover changes on hydrological dynamics and water quality in river basins of Guarapuava, Paraná, Brazil
Project coordinator
This project examines how changes in land use and land cover affect streamflow generation, hydrological responses, and water quality in river basins around Guarapuava, Paraná. By combining field monitoring, hydrological analysis, and environmental assessment, the research seeks to understand the effects of agricultural activities and landscape transformations on water resources. Findings will support sustainable land management, watershed conservation, and regional water security.

InfoHidro Guarapuava: Scientific communication about hydrology
Project coordinator
This extension project promotes access to hydrological and climate information in Guarapuava, Paraná, through a science-based digital communication platform. Using social media, particularly Instagram, the initiative disseminates weekly climate forecasts, hydrological monitoring updates, early warnings of floods, inundations, and droughts, and educational content on sustainable water use and soil management. By translating observational data, hydrological models, and official weather forecasts into accessible information, the project aims to reduce societal vulnerability to hydrometeorological hazards, strengthen disaster preparedness, and support local climate adaptation. It also provides practical training opportunities for undergraduate students in environmental data science, scientific communication, and university outreach.

HyREx: Improving the water resilience of Brazilian river basins to extreme events in a changing world
Project member
This project investigates how climate change and human activities influence hydrological variability and extreme events across Brazilian river basins. It integrates hydrometeorological datasets, artificial intelligence, explainable AI, machine learning, and hydrological modeling to identify drivers of floods and droughts, improve forecasting, and support climate adaptation and water security.
